	“Snurfing anyone?” Snowboarding has its roots in surfing. The first snowboard was little more than a plank of plywood tied on with clothesline and horse reins. In 1966 a child’s toy called the “Snurfer” was introduced—two bound skis with a central front rope for steering. Commercial snowboard manufacturing began in 1969 and brought another board iteration in 1977—the Flying Yellow Banana. Snowboarding’s popularity grew steadily each year, until its introduction as a 1994 Olympic event super-charged its momentum, thus establishing snowboarding as a world class sport that attracts legions of new fans to this day.
